If you are anything like me, you’ve got a Pinterest board of quilts and patterns that have caught your eye. You know, the ones where you say to yourself, “Love it! Someday I’m going to make a quilt like this”. I know I have way more quilts that I want to do than I could possibly get done. Plus – the list is always growing!
Well Stacey over at The Tilted Quilt is hosting a Quilty Bucket List Blog Hop to help us get our to-do lists a little bit more organized. The contents of a quilty bucket list are the quilts that, if someone told you that you were only allowed to make X number more quilts for the rest of your life, you’d make sure you completed before you couldn’t make anymore.
Here’s my quilty bucket list (in no particular order):
A Triangle Quilt

A part of me feels like these are trendy right now but maybe it is the engineer in me that is really drawn to triangle quilts (especially equilateral triangles). Plus, they are definitely modern and a lot of fun!
Something with Cathedral Windows

I know they are pretty traditional but I think that cathedral windows are stunning. And they can definitely be modernized (like in the photos above). I don’t know if I’ll ever be up for tackling an entire cathedral window quilt but I do think I could work up the nerve to try my hand at a pillow!
Paper-Piecing

So I already know that I’ll be doing my first paper piecing this year through a couple of the BOMs that I’m participating in. I just love the super detailed designs and the crisp points. I also love how you can use paper piecing to create images from fabrics (like the train above or animals or whatever).
New York Beauty

I guess this sort of goes hand in hand with paper piecing. It is just a more specific paper piecing! So many New York Beauty blocks have such small parts in addition to all the perfect points and I think they are just lovely!
Log Cabin Quilt
Or maybe I should simplify that and just say THIS log cabin quilt. I love how the bright colors are paired with the neutral white and gray. It really modernizes this very traditional block and I also love how a secondary pattern is made with the stripes.
Postage Stamp Quilt

I’ve already started collecting 2.5″ squares to make a postage stamp quilt but it will be a while before I have anywhere near enough of them! I’m planning to use a mixture of both mini charm pack and scraps cut from the leftovers of other projects. Someday there will be enough little squares to put one of these together!
A Drunkard’s Path Quilt (or something with curves)

Again, a very traditional block that you can make modern. I think solids in particular really show off the pattern well. I also just feel like learning to sew curves is something that as a quilter, I need to tackle at some point.
3D Sewing (Specifically a Duffle Bag)
I want to stretch myself a little bit and try some 3D sewing. I love the duffle bag above and I’ve actually already bought some of the Koi canvas and some linen to make myself one. So hopefully you’ll be able to see it as a WIP on the blog soon!
Hopefully I can slowly start to check some of these off! What is the number 1 thing on your quilty bucket list?
